Memphremagog Watershed Association Non-point Source Success Story

In 2015 farm the Mephremagog Watershed Association helped support a farm project to reduce phosphorus loading. In 2015 and 2016 water quality sampling was repeated at the two sites along the Strawberry Acres tributary to gauge if these projects had measurably improved water quality in this tributary. Total phosphorus concentrations at both sites were substantially lower after these practices had been installed.

National Fish and Wildlife Foundation Five Star and Urban Waters

The Five Star and Urban Waters Restoration Program seeks to develop nation-wide-community stewardship of local natural resources, preserving these resources for future generations and enhancing habitat for local wildlife. Projects seek to address water quality issues in priority watersheds, such as erosion due to unstable streambanks, pollution from stormwater runoff, and degraded shorelines caused by development. Last grant round was due January 2017. 2018 grant round TBA.

National Fish and Wildlife Foundation Pulling Together Initiative

The Pulling Together Initiative is one of the only public-private partnerships to address invasive weeds nationally. Pulling Together Initiative grants are intended to help support the creation of local cooperative weed management area partnerships. Such partnerships bring together local landowners, citizens groups and weed experts to develop and implement strategies for managing weed infestations. Pre-Proposal due date: Wednesday, July 12, 2017.

New England Grassroots Environment Fund

Three different grant programs depending on size of project and organization. Apply any time for seed grants between $250 and $1,000. Grow Grants: grants between $1,000 and $3500 dedicated to help established groups increase capacity, collaborate, and leverage impact. Deadlines March 15 and September 15. Harvest Grants: Capacity Building grants $5000 to $7000 for empowering youth-led initiatives that allow young adults to design, lead, and engage a community-based effort from inception. Deadline: Letter of Interest deadline in 2017 was May. 2018 deadline TBA.
