Aquatic Nuisance Species Grant-in-Aid

The Grant-in-aid Program provides financial assistance to municipalities and agencies of the state for aquatic invasive and nuisance species management programs. Funding for Grant-in-aid grants comes from a portion of annual revenues from motorboat registration fees and federal funds. Applications typically due January of grant cycle year.

Assessing the Biological Condition of Vermont’s Wadable Streams 2008-2012: Results of a statewide probability-based survey

Assessments of 73 randomly selected stream sites in Vermont, including fish population surveys, macroinvertebrate sampling (i.e. insects and other small creatures that live on the stream bottom), and water chemistry monitoring. A similar survey was conducted five years ago and DEC plans to repeat at five-year intervals.

Assessing the Effects of Unpaved Roads on Lake Champlain Water Quality

Researchers measured runoff and collected water quality samples during storm events in the Mad River watershed, and quantified suspended sediment and total phosphorus produced on roads at these sites. Also surveyed erosional and depositional features of unpaved roads in the Winooski watershed and assessed efficacy of best management practices.
